Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Effective treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome in Bournemouth, Poole, Broadstone and Dorset using hypnosis and hypnotherapy.
What is irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)?
Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) include abdominal discomfort or pain, usually in the lower abdomen; the location and intensity are variable, even at different times within the same person. There may be a change to your normal bowel habit; a change in frequency or consistency, chronic or recurrent diarrhoea or constipation.
Irritable bowel syndrome can be a very debilitating problem holding people back from enjoying the full life style they desire and deserve. They may be unable to work, attend social events, or even travel short distances. Up to 20% of the adult population has symptoms of IBS, which appears more often in women than men. High levels of stress and tension can cause the symptoms of IBS to increase, quite often making it impossible for the sufferer to leave their house.
IBS is very unpleasant and upsetting for the sufferer, but if you can reduce any stress in your life, avoid the foods that you know will aggravate it and alter your thinking styles, all of these can have a hugely positive impact on reducing the episodes of IBS.
Stress and anxiety will aggravate IBS, and hypnotherapy and hypnosis can help to alter your thinking styles and provide relaxation techniques to use when you feel as though it may start flaring up. Certain things such as an exam, an appraisal at work, a driving test or an interview may cause you to become anxious and nervous, which could lead to an episode of IBS. Your mind is very powerful to work in either a negative or positive way, and if you are telling yourself the right things and using the correct techniques you will be far more successful at gaining control of your thoughts, thus enabling you to become calmer and more relaxed.
What can I do now?
I would always advise a person to first consult their doctor to be sure that there is not a medical reason for their symptoms.
What treatment is available?
There are two ways to help to treat deep routed problems related to Irritable Bowel Syndrome, the first one being Hypno-analysis (analytical hypnotherapy) which is in essence cause and effect therapy and can be very effective in helping to treat IBS. Once the bottled up emotions are released then the symptoms can cease to be, allowing you to be free from your past problems.
The other way is to use Clinical Hypnotherapy combined with a Positive Thinking Styles course which can also prove a very effective therapy in treating these unwanted feelings.
Testimonial
I just wanted to say that before I started my sessions for IBS I use to take Imodium with me where ever I went. Even on my first session with Rob I was using it trying to give me piece of mind. I also suffered anxiety around this and it started to take over my life worrying were the next toilet was. Hypnosis has had calming positive effect on me. I know longer freak out at the thought of long journeys. The other day I went on a 3 hour walk with not one toilet in sight. My confidence is better and also the physical symptoms have significantly reduced. No more diarrhoea or excessive flatulence. I recommend anyone with IBS to give hypnosis a go, it has worked for me and the gain from this is priceless. Thanks Rob
